Destiny Dreams Project

The Destiny Dreams project is an initiative of Blazing Trees, to innovate resources for dream and vision storytelling, interpretation, and discipleship.

As our Lord Jesus gives dreams and visions to our team through the power of the Holy Spirit, we are mapping them into visual art, storyteller videos, and discipleship lessons along with Scriptural interpretation and spontaneous prayer.

Vision Overview

James had this vision while praying with an Indian missionary friend visiting the USA in 2017. Jesus revealed this vision to help us understand the time and care it takes to cultivate spiritual awakening and sustainable disciple making relationships in any unreached people group. The key is to worship and enjoy the Lord every day, to be intentional to invest our lives into seeing Jesus’ kingdom come in every tribe, and to trust God’s sovereign timing.

Scenes & Scriptures

As you explore this vision, spend time reading through the Scripture passages and praying for understanding from the Holy Spirit. What next steps of faith does our Heavenly Father want you to take as his anointed son or daughter?

  • Desolate Wasteland – Jeremiah 25
  • Desert Streams – Isaiah 43
  • Glory Journey – Isaiah 41
  • Costly Mission – Matthew 16
  • Persevering Endurance – Hebrews 12
  • Generation Streams – John 4

Generation Streams Vision

generation streams 1

Desolate Wasteland

Scene 1

Illustration – mountain range, dry wilderness, clouds, rain

Interpretation – The remaining unreached peoples and nations of the world are like a desolate wasteland, no resurrection life or living water. An empty desert, a hazardous place, a deadly valley. The rain is the prayers of God’s people preparing the land for fruitfulness and life.

Revelation – I will banish from them the sounds of joy and gladness, the voices of bride and bridegroom, the sound of millstones and the light of the lamp. This whole country will become a desolate wasteland. (Jeremiah 25:10-11 NIV)

generation streams 2

Desert Streams

Scene 2

Illustration – wilderness, rain, mountain summit, water pools, streams

Interpretation – At first, peoples and places without the gospel are like a thirsty desert. It takes significant time, patient prayer, and loving compassion to see the first fruits of a gospel mission. As we continue to love, care, pray, and go, these pools and new streams illustrate new believers who discover their new lives in Jesus and begin to fill up on the ways and wisdom of God’s kingdom.

Revelation – Watch for the new thing I am going to do. It is happening already – you can see it now! I will make a road through the wilderness and give you streams of water there. Even the wild animals will honor me; jackals and ostriches will praise me when I make rivers flow in the desert to give water to my chosen people. They are the people I made for myself, and they will sing my praises! (Isaiah 43:19-21 GNT)

generation streams 3

Glory Journey

Scene 3

Illustration – mountain range, streams, rivers, forests, ocean

Interpretation – The long journey from a mountain summit to the ocean, the slow transformation from drops of rain to puddles to brooks to streams to rivers is a process of spiritual awakening and a journey of discovering our identity as sons and daughters of the Most High, participating in his glory, and being filled with his presence and power. The increase in size from a puddle to a river to an ocean illustrates spiritual growth of a new believer to an experienced disciple maker. The forest illustrates how we must trust God and the leaders he plants in our path to guide us towards dependence upon the Holy Spirit. The result is experiencing God’s love and glory every day.

Revelation – The poor and the needy seek water, but there is none; their tongues are parched with thirst. I will answer them. I am the LORD, the God of Israel. I will not abandon them. I will open rivers on the barren heights, and springs in the middle of the plains. I will turn the desert into a pool and dry land into springs. (Isaiah 41:17-18 CSB)

generation streams 4

Costly Mission

Scene 4

Illustration – same as scene three, adult fish at estuaries

Interpretation – Many breeds of fish, after becoming adults, return home to their breeding grounds in mountain streams to spawn the next generation. The fish gathered at the entrance to the river mouth illustrates the cost we must face as we make disciples, to reproduce our faith into others. We often bypass this cost and avoid discussing it or meditating on the hard sayings of Jesus. But to see true faith and authentic sustainability to mission, we must help our disciples to count the cost of following Jesus Christ, a cost that involves sharing in his rejection, suffering, and sorrow.

Revelation: Jesus said to his disciples, “If you truly want to follow me, you should at once completely reject and disown your own life. And you must be willing to share my cross and experience it as your own, as you continually surrender to my ways. For if you choose self-sacrifice and lose your lives for my glory, you will continually discover true life. But if you choose to keep your lives for yourselves, you will forfeit what you try to keep.” (Matthew 16:24-25 TPT)

generation streams 5

Persevering Endurance

Scene 5

Illustration: river, small waterfalls, adult fish jumping, bear hunting, river bed, forest, mountains

Interpretation: This picture is what it’s like for anyone who tries to make disciples according to Jesus’ Great Commission in Matthew 28:18-20. All of our adversaries focus their attacks around the destiny calling of every disciple to participate in King Jesus’ glorious return. So, we trust Jesus to give us persevering endurance as we make disciples and guide them to make their own disciples too.

Revelation: Therefore let us also (seeing that we are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses) lay away all that presses down, and the sin that hangs on, and let us run with patience to the battle that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him suffered the cross, disregarding its shame, and is seated on the right hand of the throne of God. Consider, therefore, how he endured such speaking against him of sinners, lest you be wearied and faint in your minds. For you have not yet resisted to the point of bloodshed, striving against sin. (Hebrews 12:1-4 NMB)

generation streams 6

Generation Streams

Scene 6

Illustration: mountain range, mountain lake, streams, river, riverbed, forest, clouds, rain

Interpretation: As we go on our own personal journey of discovering Jesus, following his leadership, walking with the Holy Spirit, we mature in our identity as sons and daughters of God. As we count the cost of participating in Jesus’ mission, decide to make disciples, and endure through great suffering and intense spiritual battles, we begin to see the fruits of Jesus’ resurrection life and spiritual gifts at work in our disciples’ lives. One of our greatest joys is witnessing our disciples make disciples.

Revelation: Many of the Samaritans from that town put their trust in Jesus because of the word of the woman testifying, “He told me everything I ever did!” So when the Samaritans came to him, they kept asking him to stay with them. He stayed there two days, and many more believed because of his word. They kept telling the woman, “It’s no longer because of your words that we believe. We’ve heard for ourselves! Now we know that this really is the Savior of the world!” (John 4:39-42 TLV)

Eternal Kingdom > “He will rule forever, and his kingdom will last for all time. He looks on the people of the earth as nothing; angels in heaven and people on earth are under his control. No one can oppose his will or question what he does.” (Daniel 4:34-35 GNT)

Glory Firewall > “The other angel said, “Hurry, and say to that young man, ‘Jerusalem will someday be so full of people and livestock that there won’t be room enough for everyone! Many will live outside the city walls. Then I, myself, will be a protective wall of fire around Jerusalem, says the Lord. And I will be the glory inside the city!’”” (Zechariah 2:4-5 NLT)

Help > “O Israel, trust in the Lord! He is their help and their shield. O house of Aaron, trust in the Lord! He is their help and their shield. You who fear the Lord, trust in the Lord! He is their help and their shield.” (Psalms 115:9-11 ESV)

Hope > He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. (Isaiah 40:29-31 NIV)

Hymn > “He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the Lord.” (Psalms 40:2-3 NLT)

Rushing Stream > “So they shall fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun; for he will come like a rushing stream, which the wind of the Lord drives. “And a Redeemer will come to Zion, to those in Jacob who turn from transgression,” declares the Lord.” (Isaiah 59:19-20 ESV)

Shield > But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You; let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them; let those also who love Your name be joyful in you. For You, O LORD, will bless the righteous; with favor You will surround him as with a shield. (Psalms 5:11-12 NKJV)

Steady Hands > Whenever Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed, and whenever he lowered his hand, Amalek prevailed. But Moses’ hands grew weary, so they took a stone and put it under  him, and he sat on it, while Aaron and Hur held up his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side. So his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. (Exodus 17:11-12 ESV)

Strength > “The LORD is my strength and my shield; My heart trusted in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart greatly rejoices, And with my song I will praise Him. The LORD is their strength, And He is the saving refuge of His anointed.” (Psalms 28:7-8 NKJV)

Safe Place – Psalm 23

safe place copy.png

Barnabas Letters: Safe Place

Our Heavenly Father is a Safe Place for us. We have all experienced the ongoing challenge in life to find people and places where we are completely free to be ourselves and speak honestly about our struggles.

Sadly, all of us have been in situations where, even with fellow believers, we cannot speak the whole truth because those around us are not trustworthy, and they are not authentically available to listen or care.

For this reason, Jesus invites us not only to give lip service to walking with the Holy Spirit, but he takes his teaching further to say we are to practice his presence with every breath of our lives and to take each and every step with the Holy Spirit as our Wonderful Counselor.

“We must live in the Holy Spirit and follow after him.” (Galatians 5:25 TPT)

I have discovered in my journey the temptation to isolate God’s leadership in my life to a small amount of time each day that we typically call a “devotion.”

As I have counseled and coached missionaries around the world over the last decade of my life, I have witnessed a very common practice among disciples of Jesus: we make God a part of our lives, and we set apart special times to spend with him, but we do not remain with him.

Please look very carefully into the Shepherd Song with me for a moment and consider how our Beloved Abba presents himself as not only our Guide and Protector, but also the only One capable of giving us rest, peace, and spiritual renewal.

“Adonai is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for His Name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of death’s shadow, I will fear no evil, for You are with me: Your rod and staff comfort me.” (Psalm 23:1-4 TLV)

Do you see how completely desperate we are for our Good Shepherd’s presence and leadership? David wrote this song, and he understood what it meant to shepherd and protect sheep. He would need this song during his life journey, because many times he walked through this Death Shadow valley.

From King Saul wanting his head on a platter, to sleeping with one of his best friend’s wife, to ordering a census with the result of a deadly angelic massacre of Jerusalem’s citizens, David knew his life was meaningless and empty apart from resting without ceasing in our Shepherd’s arms.

Brothers and sisters, let us always rest and remain within the embrace of our Safe Place’s presence.

“Rest in God alone, my soul, for my hope comes from Him. He alone is my Rock and my Salvation, my Stronghold; I will not be shaken. My salvation and glory depend on God; my Strong Rock, my Refuge is in God. Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts before Him. God is our Safe Place.” (Psalm 62:5-8 HCSB)

Heaven Now – Isaiah 65

heaven now.PNG

Heaven Now

I heard the Holy Spirit say, “Heaven Now.” I have experienced a lot of spiritual struggles and fought many temptations over the last 24 years of following Jesus Christ. I’ve discovered in studying Scripture that the Bible is full of glimpses into what heaven will be like. I believe the Holy Spirit is asking us to press into what it can look like when Jesus’ Church practices a heaven now culture, where we live today as if what will be is already here.

Peaceful Eternity > “They will build houses and dwell in them; they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit. No longer will they build houses and others live in them, or plant and others eat. For as the days of a tree, so will be the days of my people; my chosen ones will long enjoy the work of their hands. They will not labor in vain, nor will they bear children doomed to misfortune; for they will be a people blessed by the LORD, they and their descendants with them. Before they call, I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear. The wolf and the lamb will feed together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox, and dust will be the serpent’s food. They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain,” says the LORD. (Isaiah 65:22-25 NIV)

Eternity in heaven will be peaceful. In our times, we hear about a lot of violence and death, but not in heaven. In our times, we experience a lot of division and confusion, but not in heaven. We will live forever in peace, and predators will no longer hunt and kill.

Prayer > Father, thank you for creating a beautiful place for us in the future where death can never touch us. In this age, we are surrounded by pain, suffering, and sorrow. In your kingdom to come, we see perfected life and perpetual joy. Please help us Holy Spirit to be the first people of peace in our communities, and to share with our neighbors and all nations about the righteous paradise where we will dwell with you in tranquility forever.

Blessing Culture > Blessed are the poor in spirit, for the kingdom of heaven is theirs. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the humble, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons and daughters of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for the kingdom of heaven is theirs. (Matthew 5:3-10 CSB)

We will live forever in a place of total blessing immersion. Our experiences here in this life are cascading waves of blessings and curses, but not in heaven. The kingdom of heaven is a place free of temptation and sin. World peace will no longer be just a toast.

Prayer > Father, as we gaze into this holy blessing culture, we see very quickly how we fall short of your design for humanity. By the power and presence of your Holy Spirit, you have made a way for us to pursue and practice these blessings now. Please help each of us to be poor in spirit and mourn our sinfulness, to be humble and to hunger and thirst for righteousness, to be merciful and pure of heart, to be peacemakers and be prepared for persecution of our faith by our enemies. We are not afraid; we worship you, Jesus.

Immanuel’s City > Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, flowing with water clear as crystal, continuously pouring out from the throne of God and of the Lamb. The river was flowing in the middle of the street of the city, and on either side of the river was the Tree of Life, with its twelve kinds of ripe fruit according to each month of the year. The leaves of the Tree of Life are for the healing of the nations. And every curse will be broken and no longer exist, for the throne of God and of the Lamb will be there in the city. His loving servants will serve him; they will always see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. Night will be no more. They will never need the light of the sun or a lamp, because the Lord God will shine on them. And they will reign as kings forever and ever! (Revelation 22:1-5 TPT)

We know that through Christ, we have the Holy Spirit dwelling within us. He is always speaking to us about Jesus’ revelations from heaven. As we delight in him and listen, we perceive what he says and follow his guidance and counsel. But in heaven, we will see Jesus’ face, and we will fully experience the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit together with all the heavenly hosts in a holy, royal society. What if we walked in the Holy Spirit now as Jesus’ designed this relationship to be from the beginning: delighting in God all day every day, and enjoying unceasing fellowship with our Creator through the Holy Spirit?

Prayer > Father, thank you for revealing to us our destiny to once again eat of the Tree of Life’s fruit, the fruit we lost access to when we listened to the devil and decided we would be make better gods than you. Thank you for sending the Lamb of Heaven for us to crucify, so that his death would pay our debt and crush our curse, and his resurrection would restore us to your family and open the door for the Holy Spirit to live within us. Father, all we desire and all we will ever need is you. Thank you for loving us, in Jesus’ name, amen. We are ready for you, Messiah King Jesus!

Glory Canopy

Anointed > “The Spirit of the Lord God is on Me, because the Lord has anointed Me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and freedom to the prisoners.” (Isaiah 61:1 HCSB)

Calling > I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” (Isaiah 6:8 NKJV)

Clarity > “And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.” (Isaiah 30:21 ESV)

Clay > “Yet you, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the Potter; we are all the work of your hands.” (Isaiah 64:8 NIV)

Clear Path > “People of Jerusalem, go out of the city And build a road for your returning people! Prepare a highway; clear it of stones! Put up a signal so that the nations can know that the LORD is announcing to all the earth: “Tell the people of Jerusalem that the LORD is coming to save you, bringing with him the people he has rescued.”” (Isaiah 62:10-11 GNB)

David’s Key > “I will give him the key to the house of David—the highest position in the royal court. When he opens doors, no one will be able to close them; when he closes doors, no one will be able to open them. He will bring honor to his family name, for I will drive him firmly in place like a nail in the wall.” (Isaiah 22:22-23 NLT)

Dawn > “The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.” (Isaiah 9:2 NIV)

Desert Streams > “See, a king will reign in righteousness and rulers will rule with justice. Each one will be like a shelter from the wind and a refuge from the storm, like streams of water in the desert and the shadow of a great rock in a thirsty land.” (Isaiah 32:1-2 NIV)

Glory Canopy > Then the LORD will create over all of Mount Zion and over those who assemble there a cloud of smoke by day and a glow of flaming fire by night; over everything the glory will be a canopy. It will be a shelter and shade from the heat of the  day, and a refuge and hiding place from the storm and rain. (Isaiah 4:5-6 NIV)

Greater Wisdom > “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the LORD. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8-9 NLT)

Guide > “I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them.” (Isaiah 42:16 NIV)

Righteous Hand > I brought you from the ends of the earth and called you from its farthest corners. I said: You are My servant; I have chosen you and not rejected you. Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will hold on to you with My righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:9-10 HCSB)

Salvation Fountain > With joy you will drink deeply from the Fountain of Salvation! In that wonderful day you will sing: “Thank the LORD! Praise his name! Tell the nations what he has done. Let them know how mighty he is!” (Isaiah 12:3-4 NLT)

Springs > The poor and needy search for water, but there is none; their tongues are parched with thirst. But I the LORD will answer them; I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them. I will make rivers flow on barren heights, and springs within the valleys. I will turn the desert into pools of water, and the parched ground into springs. (Isaiah 41:17-18 NIV)

Streams > “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” (Isaiah 43:19 NIV)

Sure Foundation > “Therefore the Lord God said: “Look, I have laid a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; the one who believes will be unshakable.” (Isaiah 28:16 HCSB)

Wonderful Counselor > For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called, “Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.
